KDIGO Clinical Practice Guideline for Acute Kidney Injury
KDIGO · 2012 · 2012 (2026 AKI/AKD revision in public review)
KDIGO's 2012 AKI guideline remains the current published global standard for defining, staging, preventing and managing acute kidney injury. A first full revision, expanded to cover acute kidney disease, was released as a public-review draft in 2026 and has not yet been finalised.
- KDIGO states the forthcoming AKI/AKD guideline is the first major update to its AKI guidance since 2012, so the 2012 document is still the operative version. source
- The draft update proposes an expanded AKI-to-AKD framework and definitions combining functional criteria with structural biomarkers. source
