EAU's guideline on the diagnosis and management of non-neurogenic lower urinary tract symptoms in women, including urinary incontinence. It grew out of EAU's earlier standalone urinary incontinence guideline.
US vs EU key differences
- Scope differs: the American guideline in use here addresses surgical treatment of female stress urinary incontinence, whereas the EAU covers non-neurogenic female LUTS as a whole, including storage, voiding and post-micturition symptoms, urgency and mixed incontinence, and overactive bladder. source
- The European guideline was deliberately broadened in 2023 from a urinary-incontinence document to a full female LUTS document, so a stress-incontinence surgery question sits inside a much larger diagnostic framework than in the US text. source
- Version currency differs: the EAU 2026 edition reflects a complete literature refresh of the 2023 text, while the corresponding American surgical guideline dates from 2023. source
What changed recently

The 2023 amendment was the first update to the AUA/SUFU 2017 female stress urinary incontinence guideline, incorporating literature published through February 2022. Revisions were concentrated in the surgical treatment sections, while the patient evaluation and cystoscopy or urodynamics sections were left unchanged and patient counselling was only minimally revised.
